FELICIA "THE POETESS" MORRIS
bio
Felicia “The Poetess” Morris is a veteran radio broadcaster, podcast strategist, and founder of Morris Media Studios in Los Angeles. With more than three decades of experience in broadcast and digital media, she has built a career amplifying voices, shaping culture, and helping others turn ideas into impactful platforms.
Her journey in media began at just five years old when she made her radio debut on KDIA-AM in the San Francisco Bay Area alongside her father, legendary disc jockey and broadcast engineer Johnny Morris. She later moved to Los Angeles and joined Lee Bailey’s nationally syndicated Hip Hop Countdown and Report, heard in more than 30 markets across the country, launching her into the national spotlight.
A gifted poet and performer, Felicia went on to become the first female rapper signed to Interscope Records, releasing her debut album Simply Poetry in 1992. The album featured appearances from Jamie Foxx, Def Jef, and Kool G. Rap, with the single “Love Hurts” breaking into the Top 10 on The Gavin Report Rap Radio Chart.
Felicia soon returned to her broadcasting roots, joining Los Angeles powerhouse 92.3/100.3 The Beat, where she spent over a decade on-air. Known for her keen ear for talent and authentic voice, she helped introduce artists such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Next, and Suga Free to Southern California audiences. As Community Affairs Director, she also led initiatives addressing gang prevention, economic empowerment, voter registration, and health awareness.
Her media career has included collaborations with industry leaders such as Clear Channel, Radio One, Sirius XM, and MTV, and she has worked alongside cultural figures including Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer, Tiffany Haddish, Luenell, Tom Joyner, Reverend Al Sharpton, and media pioneer Cathy Hughes.
In 2007, Felicia joined The Foxxhole on Sirius XM, the comedy and entertainment network executive-produced by Jamie Foxx, where she served as both co-host and producer.
Today, Felicia focuses on helping others find their voice through podcasting. In 2014, she founded Morris Media Studios, a premier podcast and voice-over production facility in Los Angeles. Now located inside Utopia on Pico, the studio serves as a creative hub where podcasters, entrepreneurs, entertainers, and community leaders come to develop and produce compelling content.
Through her consulting and production work, Felicia has helped celebrities, elected officials, community advocates, entrepreneurs, and aspiring creators launch successful podcasts and build impactful media platforms.
Felicia “The Poetess” Morris continues to blend her legacy in radio with the evolving world of podcasting, guiding the next generation of storytellers while amplifying voices that inform, inspire, and shape culture.
